We have already heard that Chevrolet is currently working on a 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8, which will power the next Chevy Corvette C8 Z06, the ZR1, and the hybrid Zora. We know it could produce 600 to 1000 horsepower with turbochargers, and an electric motor that can sound like a Ferrari.
According to some new details, the Grand Sport could be powered by a hybrid version of the 6.2-liter V-8 that powers the 2020 Corvette Stingray. We have also heard about the model years and powertrains of the upcoming Corvette models. Here is all we know so far!
Chevy Corvette Z06 (in 2022)
The C8 Zo6 will use a DOHC 32-valve 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crank, just as we’ve also seen in Ferrari V-8. It should rev from 8500 to 9000 rpm. The details leaked say that it will produce 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.
This means that the 5.5-liter would produce 118 horsepower per liter, which is 20% more than what we had for the Ford Mustang Shelby, T350’s 5.2-liter flat-plane-crank V-8, with 101 horsepower per liter. We expect it to hit the market as a 2022 model at the price of around $85,000.
Grand Sport (in 2023)
Grand Sport will arrive after Z06. We expect it to be powered by the same 6.2-liter V-8, which we also find in the 2020 Corvette Stingray. However, it may add one more thing to the list: electric assistance.
An insider stated that the company would not “engage in speculation on potential future products.” But if the leaked details are true, then this Chevy will come with hybrid components, from the Zora variant, together with the 6.2-liter V-8.
There is only one reason why Chevy would come up the Grand Sport as a hybrid: they could use the modern electric powertrain and just go nuts. According to the details, it could make 500 lb-ft of torque and up to 600 horsepower.
ZR1 (in 2024)
This one will use a version of the 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8, and also a pair of power-inflating turbochargers. It will also have a movable rear wing and also a front suspension, which can automatically adjust the ride height with speed in order to move the center of pressure and increase the downforce for optimum handling balance. It will come with 850 horsepower and 825 lb-ft of torque.
Zora (in 2025)
The new Zora variant will come by the twin-turbo 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V-8 with an electric motor, which could come with up to 150 horsepower. The electric motor will be placed where the front trunk in on the other models. Zora will be the most powerful Chevy Corvette Zora, with 1000 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. It’s all-wheel drive, and its instantaneous torque will make it the quickest car on the planet.
