We all have to admit that the times are long gone when gaming was considered an activity exclusively for kids. Nowadays, pretty much everybody likes to play something on PC or consoles, and there’s no wonder why considering how generous the offer of games is. Whether you’re into racing, fighting, strategy, open-world, or war games, there are still a lot of titles that you can choose from.
Since the graphics/video card plays a crucial role in making your game running on your gaming machine, you have to choose the right piece for getting an optimal gaming experience. Surely you wouldn’t want your games to lag or stutter, right? But regardless of how great can your video card make the gaming experience for you, there’s always room for improvement. For today we have two powerful candidates from NVIDIA: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1070 Ti. We’ll be comparing them both and conclude which one is better for gamers.
Enough power for playing and even creating highly-demanding games
The two tech beauties are designed to run highly demanding games, and there’s a good chance that they can help you with even building one. Creating and testing games is a difficult process, and many software engineers can confirm it for you.
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is capable of 6 GB of memory, while its adversary packs even more: 8 GB. For the benchmark CPU, the GTX 1070 Ti is more demanding: it needs an Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.20GHz, while for 1660 Ti, an Intel Core i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz should be enough. The truth is that both processors are expensive, and you should buy one if you’re willing to be using either one of the two video cards. The prices for the two processors are revolving around the amount of $350.
However, there is also some recommended power supply for the two video cards: you should use 500W for GTX 1660 Ti, while the GTX 1070 Ti needs a more powerful one: 530W.
Average performances for high resolutions
No hardcore gamer likes his games in 720p resolution anymore, as technology keeps evolving and raising the stakes. The two video cards from NVIDIA should have been better for 4K performances, but they are doing excellent for 1440p and 1080p. However, the GTX 1070 Ti takes the cake for scoring better than its opponent in all these areas: 44.8 FPS for 4K, 76.5 FPS for 1440p, 64.9 for ultrawide 1440p, and 104.6 FPS for 1080p. GTX 1660 Ti hits only 42.6 FPS for 4K, 61.7 FPS for ultrawide 1440p, 72.8 FPS for normal 1440p, and 99.5 FPS for 1080p.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti is, without a doubt, better than the GTX 1660 Ti model. And it’s a little shocking considering that GTX 1070 Ti was released two years before its opponent video card from today’s comparison. The 1660 Ti video card was launched in 2019, while the other one arrived on stores in 2017. However, there’s a significant amount of money needed to buy either of the two video cards. GTX 1660 Ti costs about $279, while the other NVIDIA video card costs about twice that amount: $503.
Gaming is expected to reach unprecedented heights in 2020, because Sony and Microsoft will bring near the end of the year their next-generation consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, respectively). Those two gaming machines will take gaming at a whole new level, and it will be exciting to understand which one of them will be better. But if you’re out of patience for the upcoming consoles, you can always upgrade your gaming PC with a video card from NVIDIA like GTX 1660 Ti or GTX 1070 Ti.
