iPhone SE 2020 vs. iPhone 7: Which One Should You Choose

Apple doesn’t always release mind-blowing gadgets like iPhone 11. But when it does, you just have to get your hands on one, at least for a quick test. However, there are plenty of exciting phones made by Apple, and today we’re going to be comparing two budget iPhones with decent specs: the 7 and the new SE 2020 models.

The two iPhones are very similar on the outside, but you know what they say: appearances are deceiving. They are two pretty unique and different iPhones, and deciding which one is better can be a tough challenge.

Hardware

iPhone SE 2020 has some impressive specs for its price range, making it a device suitable for those willing to play games on smartphones. The SE 2020 model is packed with an A13 Bionic chipset, which is the most powerful processor present on iPhones. Even iPhone 11 has one. Adding the 3GB RAM and the three versions of storage (64GB, 128GB and 256GB), you have a perfect gadget for mobile gaming. The phone is also packed with a 4.7-inch Retina HD (1334 by 750) display and a 1,821 mAh battery.

On the other hand, iPhone 7 is not doing bad at all, but it’s significantly weaker than its opponent for today. With an A10 Fusion chipset, 2GB of RAM, and three versions of storage (32GB, 128GB and 256GB), iPhone 7 is still a decent phone, but unrecommended for the most demanding mobile games on the market. The phone also has a 1,960 mAh battery, and a 4.7-inch Retina HD display.

iPhone SE 2 clearly wins this round, while iPhone 7 only has a better battery.

Cameras

While the iPhone SE and iPhone 7 both have 12MP lenses with apertures of f/1.8, there are no more similarities from that point. By using the iPhone SE’s camera, you’ll receive the Smart HDR feature, which can capture more details in the faces of the people you capture on photos. iPhone SE 2020 is also capable of creating lighting effects and control the depth of field for portraits.

These features are beyond what iPhone 7 has to offer, which means that its opponent for today wins another round.

Price

While price shouldn’t be decisive criteria when it comes to selecting your desired gadget, it surely cannot be overlooked. iPhone SE 2020 starts at just $399 for the 64GB version. As soon as you double the storage to 128GB, the price becomes $449. The 256GB model is the most expensive: $549.

The numbers above are lower than those of iPhone 7 when it was launched in 2016. It started at $649, and nowadays you can purchase the same phone with just about $200.

The conclusion is simple: iPhone SE 2020 is better in almost all areas than iPhone 7, but the second one is much cheaper. But if you care more about the price, it’s obvious what you should choose.
