Both Minecraft and Roblox are old-school games, and when compared to the titles coming out nowadays, they would be considered mediocre in terms of gameplay, graphics, and so on. However, both titles are incredibly popular as they are unique, boasting millions of active players from all over the world.
While Roblox came out in 2006 and impressed the world with its lego-like visuals, Minecraft was released in 2009 and has quickly become a big hit thanks to its blocky worlds.

This is the debate of the modern – which game is better: Minecraft or Roblox? Here we take a look at every aspect of the games and decide which one wins this.
Price
Before you even get to play the game, you’ve got to go on price. Initially, Minecraft came out free-to-play, but with it expanding so much, developers have decided to sell it: the PC version of the game is $26.99. The Xbox One version starts at $19.99, while on Nintendo Switch, players need to pay $29.99 to have the game.
Roblox launched before Minecraft, and since its release, it is completely free, which makes it incredibly accessible to many gamers. In exchange, in-game purchases help Roblox generate revenue while keeping the main gameplay free.
Platforms
Minecraft has been available on a number of platforms since its alpha release. It then rose to prominence on Windows and Linux, followed soon by Android and iOS software. The game was finally made accessible on consoles as well, starting with Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and on Nintendo Switch in 2017.
Roblox, on the other hand, had a different availability journey. Similar to Minecraft, it started on PC and was made available on mobile in 2012. When it comes to consoles, however, Roblox is only playable on Xbox One, but it is not available on any other console model.
Gameplay

In Survival mode, players have to collect all their material in order to build, craft items and tool, to gain experience points. In Creative mode, you have access to an unlimited amount of blocks and items, which you can destroy right away. Minecraft also offers an Adventure mode, in which players can interact with levers and buttons, as well as with mobs.

Minecraft vs. Roblox – Verdict
When it comes to gameplay, Roblox definitely has the edge over Minecraft thanks to its limitless number of game modes. Add to this the fact that it is free to play, and you’ve got a perfect title to occupy your time with. However, the fact that it is limited to PC, mobile and Xbox One players takes away a lot.
On the other hand, Minecraft is available on most major platforms, including PC, mobile devices, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Still, it is not free to play and has a limited number of modes. It is also all about building and exploring, while Roblox allows you to even create new games on its platform, which might be more fun.
Overall, Roblox has the edge here, but Minecraft is not a bad deal either.
