NBA 2K21 – Pre-Order Details, Release Date, Bonuses and More

NBA 2K21, the long-awaited game in Take-Two‘s renowned sports series, will be released on September 4th on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. We also know that the standard edition of the game will be $70 on next-generation consoles, which makes it the first title for the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X to cost more than the usual $60 price for brand new games.

In addition, you won’t be able to upgrade NBA 2K21 from current generation consoles to the upcoming ones for free, unless you buy the Mamba Forever edition for $100. Pre-orders are now live on all platforms, and each edition has a number of bonuses.

The just-announced Mamba Forever edition salutes the late Kobe Bryant and rounds up the cover athletes trio for NBA 2K21. While other next-generation cross-over games, including Madden NFL 21 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, have confirmed free upgrades from current to next-gen devices, NBA 2K21 is getting incentives on purchases of the expensive Mamba Forever edition.

If you want the game at its initial launch on both your current and new PS5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll save $30 by purchasing the Mamba Forever edition as opposed to buying the standard edition twice. It is worth mentioning that the upgrade to upcoming consoles is the standard edition of the title, so you won’t double on the digital features that come with the Mamba Forever edition.

NBA 2K21 Cover Athletes and Price

Here are the cover athletes of NBA 2K21 and their prices:

  • Damian Lillard, current generation standard edition – $60
  • Zion Williamson, next-generation standard edition – $70
  • Kobe Bryant, Mamba Forever edition (both generations) – $100

The next-generation version of the game is more than a simple upgrade, as 2K Sports says it was building both the PS5 and Xbox Series X version from the ground up. Fortunately, progress in some significant areas will transfer to the upcoming consoles, and MyTeam, the card-collecting online mode, will share progress together with your Virtual Currency wallet.
