Niantic will celebrate the Buddy Pokémon feature with a new in-game event. The Buddy Up Event will start this week and will allow players to get some rare Pokémon and some chances at catching some of the most popular Buddy Pokémon. Due to the new coronavirus outbreak, the makers of the game made it even easier to play now inside, and it is more beneficial to play with your Buddy Pokémon.
Many Pokémon, such as Alolan Meowth, Chansey, Eevee, Feebas, Lillipup, and Joltik, will make their appearances quite often. They will hatch from 5km Egg at a higher rate, as well. Also, remember Woobat, who was once an event-exclusive Pokémon? It is also back, and it will hatch from 2km Eggs after the event ends.
So when will the event begin?
The event will start on Tuesday, the 21st of April, at 8 a.m. local time. It will end on Monday, the 27th of April, at 10 p.m. local time.
As we all know, Volbeat and Illumise are Bug-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region. However, here, in Pokémon Go, they are region-exclusive, which means that they can only be caught in some parts of the world. However, for this event, they will show up in the wild, and it does not matter where you are. This gives you access to some Pokémon, which you would normally not be able to get that quickly. They will both be rewards for completing specific Research Tasks. Both of them will also have their Shiny forms.
Keep in mind that when the event is over, Volbeat will only appear in Europe, Asia, and Oceania, and Illumise will only appear in America and Africa.
More about the research tasks
According to the official Niantic blog, there will be some new field research tasks for this event. The rewards will be Stardust, Alolan Meowth, Volbeat, Illumise, and Woobat. We cannot wait to see what the makers have prepared for us.
What about in-game bonuses?
The developer has revealed that there will also be some in-game bonuses, which you can take advantage of. Make sure you enjoy each and every one of them.
The first one is that Buddy Pokémon will come with more surprised more often, and there will be a new kind of gift. The second one is that you will only have to deal with half the distance to earn Buddy Candy. The third one is that it will be easier for your buddy to get excited. The fourth one is that you can feed your buddy Berries and Poffins, and it will join you on the map for twice as usual. The last one is that you will get twice the XP for evolving Pokémon.
