The Game Developers Conference (GDC) has encountered a somehow unfair situation over the past few months. Many companies canceled their events due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. We now know that GDC 2020 will happen.
As unfortunate as they were, the postponements were very much needed to avoid a mass infection of people with the new type of coronavirus. Now, we have news about the future GDC event, and things seem to be normal again.
The GDC event was first booked for March 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it never happened. Other events, as well, needed to be postponed, so the GDC’s decision was awaited, too. Facebook and Sony were among the first companies to pull out of the GDC, and the Kojima Productions followed, as well. With such significant names releasing such big statements during the current worldwide pandemic, GDC had to adapt.
The GDC 2020 Event Will be Fully Digital
Now, the GDC received a summer event in August. This time around, we’re going to witness something different. The GDC staff stated: “We’re inspired to adapt and deliver GDC in a digital format that will be available to everyone with an Internet connection and will work hard to deliver the high-end quality content and networking opportunities GDC attendees have come to expect.”
No other details have been mentioned about where the GDC Summer can be viewed. The statement, however, also said that more details are on their way soon.
For those who don’t know, the GDC is an annual conference for all video game developers. The event was inaugurated back in April 1988 by Informa. The GDC 2020 includes networking events, an expo, and award shows such as the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice. It also comprises lots of tutorials, roundtables by industry professionals, and lectures.
