This App on Google Play Store Knows Which Platforms Actively Spy on You

Google Play Store hosts an app that can notify Android users when and which applications, software, platforms, or services are spying on them. Users that want to be more thorough on privacy issues can download the free app from the Google Play Store, which lets them know when an app is listening in on them.

Over the years, a large number of Android apps have been found to switch on a mic when the user doesn’t expect it. Back in 2018, a study was published and stated that more than 250 Google Play Store apps were guilty of this practice, but most people are not yet aware of this fact.

This App Knows When Programs Spy on You

Google has allegedly taken some steps to solve privacy concerns, such as enhanced permissions and features with the operating system created to clamp down on covert use of a mic or camera. However, most trackers on the web belong to Google, as well as most contracts signed with such apps.

If you want to go the extra mile, then you can download Access Dots for Android, which notifies you when an app is spying on you. As reported in a post by The Next Web, this is a program that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, and it is designed specifically for those concerned about what third-party app they have installed on their mobile device may be spying in the background.

Access Dots uses a simple color notification system to let you know when an app is listening in. A green dot appears on your screen when the camera has been accessed by an application, and an orange dot shows when the microphone has been engaged.

It brings to Android the same security feature that Apple has already revealed in iOS 14, which will be added to all iPhones running iOS after the release date, which is expected to be in September.

How to Download Access Dots

Thanks to Access Dots, Android users can benefit from a similar feature to that on iOS 14 early, and as per The Next Web, the test performed on the app showed good results.

The Next Web reported: “The app works as advertised. I haven’t yet found any wayward eavesdroppers, thankfully — but I’m glad I now have a way to catch them in the act. I’d have liked for Access Dots to also name the app that’s using your camera or mic, but that functionality isn’t yet available.”

If you want to get the app, you can do so by following this link that takes you to the service’s Google Play Store listing.

Here is what the developers have said about the app: “Did you know that once you grant access to your phone’s camera or microphone to any third-party App, they can use it silently in the background?”

The description of the program continues: “And do you feel envious about the new iOS 14’s privacy feature – shows an indicator whenever the camera or microphone is accessed? Presenting Access Dots for Android, supporting all the way down to Android 7.0! Access Dots, adds the same iOS 14 style indicators (few pixels light up as a dot) to the top right (default) corner of your screen whenever any third-party App uses your phone’s camera or microphone. Access Dots will be visible even on your lock screen!”
