WhatsApp is currently testing animated stickers in a beta version of its app for both iPhone and Android. The feature will be available through WhatsApp v184.108.40.206 beta for Android and WhatsApp v220.127.116.11 beta for iPhone. It has been said that the app is working on animated stickers for quite the time now, but we don’t know much about it.
WhatsApp started supporting stickers back in 2019, but there was no sign of animated stickers. The app has its own sticker packs, and it allows users to get third-party ones.
These new animated stickers support will only be available to those who will test them in the beta version. According to the tracker notes, the feature will also work on WhatsApp Business as well, but it will be rolled out for specific users on WhatsApp.
The stickers will be divided into three parts. In some parts, the user will be able to see the stickers, send them, star them, or forward them. But in others, they might also be able to import them from third-party stores or download them from the store of the app. All the three parts should be rolled out to beta users, but until them, the feature is not complete.
They will also be able to download default sticker packs from the app. There are five sticker packs – Playful Piyomaru, Rico’s Sweet Life, Moody Foodies, Chummy Chum Chums, and Bright Days. However, keep in mind that the sticker packs will not be seen unless someone sends a sticker from each pack. And third-party animated sticker packs are not yet supported by the WhatsApp v18.104.22.168 beta for Android.
